The summer solstice, also known as midsummer, occurs when a planet’s rotational axis, in either northern or southern hemispheres, is most inclined toward the star that it orbits. The word “solstice” is derived from two Latin words; Sol means sun, and sistere means: causing to stand still, so literally it translates to “sun standing still”. The summer solstice has traditionally been a time of outward celebration as people rejoice and energise themselves under the warmth of the sun, experiencing the peak of its energy.
